The Puritans, Legalism & Antinomianism

One interesting thing Chris suggested - the Puritans view of the Law (and focus on such things - e.g. very large percentages of catechisms devoted to exposition of 10C) might be because they were more afraid of antinomianism than they were of legalism. Perhaps, he said, they had missed the significance of the stay-at-home son in the story of the Prodigal Son? He argued that we need to read the Puritans with this lens.
I thought that a very helpful comment indeed! We need to delight in the Puritan's piety but also avoid some of their over-reactive legalism, driven by a deep fright and worry of liberalism.
